There are some conditions for registering to take the driving test:

• You must be at least 18 years old.
• You must have attended an officially recognised emergency first aid course (course on emergency life-saving measures) and passed a sight test conducted by an authorised optician.
• You must complete a traffic skills course with an authorised driving instructor.
• You must have passed a written theory test, in which you answer questions about traffic regulations.
  

Once you have passed your driving test you will be given a provisional licence. The probationary period lasts three years. During this time you must attend two additional training days with a recognised course provider. You can only apply for a full driving licence when the probationary period has expired and you have attended the two-day, compulsory additional training. Different rules apply to people who acquired a category A (motor vehicle) or B (passenger vehicle) driving licence abroad before 1 December 2005.
