Preparing for birth

Where can we find out about pregnancy and birth?

The most important person to speak to about pregnancy is a gynaecologist, who will carry out medical checks at regular intervals. He or she will monitor your child’s development and identify potential risks to mother and child. Freelance midwives can answer questions about the birth during your pregnancy.

Hospitals offer what are known as ante-natal courses, to prepare for the birth. They provide valuable information about the birth process, about breastfeeding and your new responsibilities as a parent. In some parts of Switzerland these courses are held in various languages.
